Since 1999 the descriptive lists of archives (catalogues) have been created using the CAIRS system. Only a very small number can be found on CAIRS at present, but the number will increase substantially in the future. They will include archives of corporate bodies, such as cultural, political and religious institutions; estate records and the archives of individuals and families.

At present only collection level descriptions are available, i.e. the description of the archive in its entirety. More detailed descriptions will be available from the autumn of 2002.

The vast majority of the descriptive lists prepared before the adoption of the CAIRS system can be searched on ISYS:web. This database is updated constantly and a current list of the catalogues that have been converted to ISYS is available. Note, however, that the lists added to ISYS:web, with very few exceptions, are ones created before 1999.
